National Entrepreneurship Week (Educate and/or Empower)
- Overview
- This annual celebration is designed to honor the enormous contributions that entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship educators make to the economic vitality of the United States. It is a celebration of American entrepreneurs and the lifelong learning educational opportunities that prepare the NEW business leaders of the future. The Week is in response to the U S House of Representatives Resolution #699, supporting an annual National Entrepreneurship Week and encouraging the celebration of it annually at the local, state, and national levels.

Youth, schools, and community/organizations that have youth-led businesses now have an opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial ventures. Students must create a three minute video that captures their business and “pitch” it to judges. Submissions can be made as one of three categories: 1) Personal business (outside of school/community), 2) School-based business, or 3) Community/organizational youth-lead business. Quick Pitch Contest
Participants will attend training the week before to learn the rules and then on Thursday they will pitch their business idea to a panel of judges. The contest is divided into two divisions, a high school division and adult division. The winners will be awarded prizes. Summit on Entrepreneurship Pre-Conference Cornstalks Reception
This special reception is being hosted the evening of Thursday, February 23 immediately prior to the Summit on Entrepreneurship which begins the next day (February 24). The evening will begin with a reception and will be followed with networking and a keynote speaker, Stephen J. George, CFA, co-founder and chief investment officer of Capricorn Investment Group, LLC. George founded Capricorn Investment Group, LLC in 2002, and has since led an overall investment strategy, capital allocation, risk management and development of the firm. Currently, he is focused on the firm’s investing programs in venture capital.
